Typhoon

While it was not even in the same ballpark as Hurricane Katrina, I experienced my very first typhoon yesterday. All of my classes were cancelled-except for 2 that I had in the morning and I headed over to a friend's apartment to hang out and brave the storm. This area of Japan was not hit very hard- just very strong winds and rain- but other areas, such as southern Kyushu, were hit pretty hard and there was lots of flooding. So, we were lucky- not many in this area lost power, and there was little real damage. Another first I can check off my list.

It is very sad for me to be in Japan and hear about Hurricane Katrina and all the devastation- to say the least. I don't have TV- so I can't watch any coverage of it really- I can only see pics on the internet. Everyone here in Japan is fullly aware of it and it has covered the front pages of all their newspapers and my students tell me that it has been on every news program.

I've heard that something was wrong with my email account and I haven't received some emails. So if you tried to send me one over the past week- please resend it, my email account seems to be ok now.
