BUIS in Japan?

I don`t know- but I came close to finding out.

For all of you who have lived in Eugene, Oregon at some point in their lives know what I`m talking about. For those of you who haven`t : BUI stands for Biking Under the Influence. Yep, it`s a DUI of the bike world, my friends. This is an actual offense that you can get a ticket for in Eugene, but luckily I wasn`t dumb enough to find out about this law personally. I`m not sure if this law exists here in Japan or not- but luckily I`m skilled enough to appear sober while riding a bike home, drunk. (And I can ride a mean bike when I`m drunk)

This past weekend I stayed at a friend`s apartment in Ube and none of them have cars here- only bikes. And luckily for me, they had an extra sweet little folding bike with bouncy balloon-like tires for me to ride. There was a reason that this was the EXTRA bike, meaning that no one else wanted it. This baby was like a mini trampoline on wheels- you had to get going up to a certain speed for it to stop bouncing up and down. I know that my basis for comparison was a little off considering that I hadn`t ridden a bike in a few years- but my gut instinct ( and all of my friends laughing at me) told me that this wasn`t a normal bike.

So anyway, I went out to the bar on a bike. This was a first for me and I thought I was pretty cool.
When I get back to the states and I see a dude pull up to the bar on a bike, he`s gonna have a newfound respect in my eyes. Yeah, I might let him buy me a drink.
